Dutch Country Helicopters, operated by Hi-Tech Helicopters, Inc. offers helicopter flight training for beginner students to advanced.  We offer training in the 300C, and the Robinson R44.

Dutch Country Helicopters was established in 1986, on the grounds of Lancaster Regional Airport utilizing the Bell 47 helicopter. It is a familiar site in the Lancaster county skies. Pilots come from near and far to fly this great helicopter. We have trained numerous individuals in the art of flying over the years.

As the company outgrew the hanger it had been occupying on the north side since the early 80's, the business was relocated to its present location a larger hangar on the southwest side of the airport at the beginning of runway 08. Students and instructors alike liked the Bell 47 so much; at that time, a Bell 47 was made a permanent part of the operation. The fleet continued to grow as did the number of individuals wanting to learn to fly. People from all over the United States and from countries like Germany, Ireland, and Great Britain have been trained and continue to be trained here at DCH.

Over the past few years, the company has realized that the Bell 47 was quite expensive to operate and maintain as a training aircraft. After some thought and planning, DCH acquired on lease a Schweizer 3000CBi. In February 2013 DCH signed a lease for another 300CBi to better serve the growing needs for instrument trainers. These helicopters now serve as our main training units for primary, advanced and instrument flight training. One of the 300CBi's is equipped with the Aspen “glass panel” display and the other have conventional "steam" gauges with an HSI. The Bell 47 is still utilized but mostly for CFI instruction, photo flight, helicopter rides, air tours of the area, golf ball drops etc.

Darren Lucas purchased  Dutch Country Helicopters, Inc in 2010. Over the last decade he has accumulated over 5000 hours in various types of helicopters, from single engine pistons to twin engine turbines. With over 2500 hours of instruction given in Bell 47's, Schweizer 300's, Robinson R44, Bell 206 and more. Darren has accumulated a well-rounded level of experience in his pursuit to move DCH's services to an even higher level. Under Darren's leadership DCH will continue to offer flight training, either at our home airport (KLNS) located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, or we will come to you. You can train with us in one of our helicopters or even in your own. We can handle all of your helicopter flight training needs from Private Pilot all the way up to ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) as well as helicopter instructor and instrument instructor.

For those individuals who are certified, when was the last time you practiced full down autorotation, 180 degree autorotation, hovering autorotation, hydraulic failures, tail rotor failures, and stuck pedals? Could you land safely if an emergency arose during flight? Do you know what to do if there was total engine failure? DCH is here to help you hone your skills to ensure the safest operation of your helicopter and to better prepare you in case of an unexpected emergency situation.

Despite the economic conditions now present, DCH has been able to maintain and expand the professional quality training, services, and assistance that we presently offer. We are poised to offer more quality services in the near future. Our dedicated staff has made this possible and DCH will continue to serve the aviation industry now and in the future.

By allowing everyone to experience the beauty and joys of flying, DCH is proud to promote and participate in the future of aviation.

We invite you to visit and see what DCH has to offer. Take a discovery flight and take in the beauty and joys of flying. Take the road less traveled to reach your goals.
